Running To Lose Weight – Anybody With A Plan?
I’ve never done much running, but have a pretty good-ish stamina.
I want to start running outdoors – not looking to be a marathon runner or anything, but want to lose weight and gain strength.
- I’m wondering as to how many kilometres/miles one should run and how often a week?
- Also what times of day you’d consider to be best for running.
- What parts of the body lose most weight when running?
If you know of a great running plan, I’d love to know about it.
-It isn’t a question of distance but of time. Your body will be burning glycogen for the first 45 minutes and then switch to fat so if you want to rely on yoiur stamina that would be a goal. However further than 45 minutes you run themore fat you lose. The more often you do this the more fat you lose (if your caloric intake remains the same). BE ADVISED: There is a limit to how much stress you can put on your body before suffering negative effects (injury, burnout). Don’t increase mileage/time (however you want to measure it) more than 10% a week. and once a month cutback to 75% of what you were doing, then move on to 110%.
-There is no best time of day. If you live in a hot climate, midday might not be good as it may be to hot.
-You cannot spot reduce. Your whole body loses weight performing any exercise not jsut a specific part.
All that said what has been determined to lose you the most weight are interval workouts, fast runs followed by rest periods. For example run a minute hare, then walk for 2 minutes and repeat. Start with 4 and work up to 8 or 12. This will keep you burning calories hours after you workout ends. Thisis very intense and you should not do it every day. Alternate between the two, one day long distance in excess of 45 minutes, the next, intervals.
Good luck!
The most important thing is to start easy and build distance over time. Just like weight loss itself, it’s a gradual process.
Your genetic make-up determines what part of your body loses weight at what rate. This is logical because where it is deposited in the first place is different for everybody

Do you know fat burns after 40min exercises? Until this time – only sweat.
I play ice hokey and lose 4 kg in one game. But I strictly manage water.
- 1 our minimum, doesn’t matter running distance, 3 times in week is enough
- I have heard morning exercise is not healthy, better in 2 ours after waking up
- first lose weight face, it`s easy, more difficult lose weight stomach, legs
And cancel substantial dinners
Good luck
Any type of consistent cardio exercise can help you lose weight. Running (cardio exercise) is very good for weight loss (but it is also hard on your body). Cardio walking to lose weight is also very good. It is easier on your body than running or jogging and it is sustainable long term.
don’t measure your running by distance measure it by time a good runner can do about 8-9 miles in 45 minutes
