I’m Asking This Again, Because No One Answered (about Diets And Losing Water Weight)?
I just started a diet, 3 days ago, and I’ve already lost 3 pounds. I would love to believe that I lost fat, but I know that it was just water weight. Can someone explain how this makes sense? It’s not like I stopped drinking, I’m just eating less.
The first pounds lost in a week or ten days never stays off. As you said…its probably liquid and not fat.
Calories eaten must be balanced by calories burned each day. If you eat 2000 calories a day and exercise only enough to burn 1500 calories, you have a surplus which goes to storage on your body (fat) for use later.
Don’t stop eating. Rather eat four or five SMALL meals throughout the day, being sure you get enough calories and vitamins to maintain good health.
Mix fruit, nuts, veggies, and proteins in these meals. Make the meals taste good. Just keep the “empty calories” sugar, soft drinks, candies, salted snacks, and sweet desserts to an absolute minimum.
Its not so much “What” you eat, as how “Much” you eat! So eat things you enjoy, just in much smaller proportions more often. That way you are never hungery and subject to snacking.
THEN, do something more than you have been doing for exercise. Take a walk, plant some flowers, ride a bike, use stairs instead of an elevator. Dance, skip, run naked down the street flapping your arms like a chicken…just get outside and DO something!
This weight will come off very slowly, but will tend to stay off. Changing your eating habits and life style will work.
Drinking MORE actually helps you stop retaining water.
When you start a new diet, you loose weight faster in the beginning because you are changing your habbits. You probably have lost some fat, some water. There is absolutely NO way for any of the Yahoos on Yahoo to tell. When you shake up your metabolism, your body adjusts in a number of different ways. If you aren’t exercising, remember that you also can lose muscle. You will hit a plateau soon, and that’s when you know you need to tweek the diet again. Without knowing what you are now eating on your diet, it’s hard to tell why you lost 3lbs in 3 days or what exactly you lost. When I cut BAD carbs (NOT ALL CARBS) out of my diet and eat significant ammounts of fiber, I lose a pound a day too… no way for us to tell what you lost and how. You need to evaluate your diet and learn more about it- ESPECIALLY so you can make sure you’re being as healthy as possible. Being healthy about it is the fastest way to lose weight.
if you’ve cut down on sodium, then you retain less water. and if you drink more water, then you retain less (and can even flush retained water out). strange, i know, but if you’re not getting enough water, then your body stores it up thinking it has to hold on to it because its not going to get more. sodium does the same thing to water (and why you can feel really bloated after eating things like chinese food). so you might have inadvertantly cut your sodium intake without realizing it. also, we tend to fluxuate weight-wise anyways, and even your TOM can affect how you’re retaining water.
Weight loss can never really be compared to anyone else. Thus, it’s specific to you and only you. I can tell you that less is always better because it forces your body to use what it has more often. Water weight is much more difficult to lose than actual fat so you should be proud.
Be active, increase the heart rate as often as you can and the actual fat will start to dissipate. But if you lose water weight easily, you are doing good! Hope I helped!
Your body is adjusting to the change in diet by releasing fluid and fat. Both are happening at the same time, but you won’t really feel a huge change in your body until you’ve lost more weight. Keep it up and you’ll see! My clients lose three pounds by the second day and most of it is water weight but both are happening. When you eat healthy, your body can get water from the good foods you weren’t eating before. This results in extra fluid loss.
First of all, I hope you arent starving yoruself…
Ok, it does make sense that you are losing so quickly. I wonder if you increased excercise and even if you didnt, the summertime is good for dieting because you tend to sweat off the pounds as well. And if you cut soda out of your diet, then that will definitely increase your loss! Good luck!
Listen…it’s really quite simple….
Step 1: Stop drinking sodas and sitting on your buttocks all day.
Step 2: Go outside and exercise…I mean actually sweat and do it every day. Lift weights every now and then. Low weight high repetition.
Step 3: Burn more calories that you take in.
Result: Lose fat, gain muscle, healthy body, healthy mind….blah blah blah!
DIETS. DON’T. WORK.
EAT. SLEEP. EXERCISE.
That amount varies based on tons of factors. Most notably: How many calories are you taking in, and how much water are you drinking? Your body is pretty smart and regulates itself. If you’re drinking too much water, you might lose water first, then fat. It really depends.
Thats usually what happens when you first start to lose weight. Its not a big deal just continue doing what your doing working out and eating healthy. You should check out this site for diet support of all kinds http://www.3fatchicks.com its the best I have lost 25lbs so far from working out and watching what I eat I am going for about another 30-35lbs good luck
3lb is a lot to lose in 3 days from just eating right. It could have been some water weight but some could have been fat as well. Our body weight fluctuates a bit with how much we consume and how much we excrete. Water does help you loose weight and can also clear your skin,so don’t stop drinking it.
Are you exercising as well?
you lose water weight first because you’re reducing the amount of calories you eat, or you’re eating less protein/carbs and when protein/carbs are metabolised (digested/burned) water is released, so because you’re eating less, less water is released.
i hope that makes sense [:
I started a diet and lost 8 pounds in two days! My nutritionist said it was water weight but she also said it is still weight that is not on the scale! Good job keep up the good work. Water weight falls off first so I’d say anything from now on is all you!
There are lots of things that go into loosing weight. Cutting your salt intake will make a hudge difference in your water weight. You might not have ever thought about this before but everyone is on a diet. What ever your normal food intake is is your diet.
ur body naturally stores glucose (sugar water) and if you start eating less, that is the 1st thing to be used up, then you will begin to lose fat after about a week or so, at about a pound or two a week.
how do you know it was water weight? I can fluctuate up to 5 pounds in a day. I can weight myself in the morning and be 177 and then in the afternoon i can be 182.
You lose fat when your body starts to burn fat for energy. You need to add exercise to your routine to boost your metabolism and start burning fat. Keep drinking water…it helps the process!
You won’t lose water weight by drinking less, in fact if you want to lose the water wieght you should drink more, then your body won’t feel the need to store it:)
